Since its introduction, BMW’s long-running 5 Series has continually raised the bar for mid-sized executive sedans when it comes to handling and luxury. From the hybrid 530e to the high-performance M5, its lineup has something for every type of driver. This is your quick guide to the 2023 BMW 5 Series.

Powertrain Options

The 5 Series has several engines on offer: the base 248-hp 2.0L TwinPower Turbo inline-4, the 540i’s 335-hp 3.0L inline-6, and the M550i’s 523-hp 4.4L  V8. Additional fuel efficiency comes from the 530e’s 2.0L inline-4 with its electric motor. It can achieve an EPA-rated 64 combined MPGe while putting out a combined 288 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The track-oriented M5’s 4.4L V8 puts out a whopping 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.
No matter which option you choose, it will pair with BMW’s slick 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission, which features manual paddle shifters and launch control. Driving Dynamics Control has multiple drive modes for maximum efficiency, comfort, or sharper throttle response. Most models come in the traditional rear-wheel drive layout, but the xDrive AWD system is also available for those who desire additional traction in adverse weather.

M5

Widely considered to be the pinnacle of sport sedans, the M5 is sure to deliver a heart-pumping drive when you take it out on the track. This iteration of the famed car comes standard with xDrive, which preserves the classic M5 driving experience by biasing power towards the rear axle. In a drag race with its competitors, the car is sure to come out on top thanks to its blistering 0-60 time of just 3.2 seconds.
The M5’s Adaptive M Suspension ensures equally impressive performance when navigating through windy roads and tight corners. It features electronically controlled dampers that continuously monitors for changes in road conditions. In order to enhance handling even further, BMW’s racing division has included custom kinematics and reworked the car’s Servotronic electric power steering.

Interior

The 5 Series provides buyers with one of the finest interiors available in a sedan. Inside the cabin, you’ll find generous space for five, plush SensaTec or leather upholstery, and gorgeous wood and aluminum trim. Models equipped with the Luxury Seating Package get 20-way, multi-contour front seats that will keep you relaxed during long road trips. In addition to heating, the front seats are also available with a massage function to further reduce fatigue.
As for cargo, the 5 Series’ trunk can accommodate plenty of luggage with its 18.7 cubic feet of space.

Technology

BMW Live Cockpit Professional comes standard with every model and provides easy access to various vehicle information with its Digital Information Cluster and Central Information Display. The 12.3-inch touchscreen system provides support for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, mobile Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, and over-the-air software updates.

Available BMW Remote Services include stolen vehicle recovery, remote door locks, and concierge services, which connect you with a live agent that can help you locate the nearest ATM or even book a hotel room.

Owing to its incredible performance and long list of convenient features, the 5 Series easily keeps its spot as one of the top luxury sedans. Visit Carlock BMW of Tuscaloosa today and see if the 2023 model is here for yourself!
